Fellowship Training

Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience/Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center offers two one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited positions in the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program.

The fellowship prepares the candidate for Added Qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Fellows serve rotations in a nationally recognized VA medical center and the Alois Alzheimer Center which provides experience in subspecialty clinics/wards and non-VA settings.

As part of training, fellows have chance to intermingle with geriatric medicine fellows and general psychiatry residents, which  provides them to share their clinical and didactic experience. Geriatric psychiatry fellows also have chance to supervise general psychiatry residents and medical students during their clinical rotations.

Multidisciplinary team-based clinical learning is interwoven with geriatric psychiatry-specific Seminars, Case conferences, and Journal Clubs. The fellows are also required to attend weekly Grand Rounds, live patient board-style examinations, scholarly project and 360-degree feedback sessions.  Competency-based learning is guided by clearly outlined goals and objectives.  Graduates are highly sought for clinical, administrative and research roles.

Highly competitive salary and benefits are available, including the opportunity to earn extra income.
