Education

Pre-Clinical Years

The Year 1 curriculum focuses on the normal structure, function and development of the human body.

The Year 2 curriculum focuses on the basis and mechanisms of  disease and includes the Brain and Behavior 2 course in which students learn about disorders associated with abnormal nervous system function including psychopathology.

Following some lectures, patients with psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder give presentations about their experiences with mental illness.

For many students, this is the first opportunity to see patients with mental illness and to discuss the impact of the illness with patients.
